In the aftermath of the midterm elections, I am hearing many who are breathing a sigh of relief and saying now we’re back on the right track. There is a lot of strong optimism that this thing can be turned around. Please do not be fooled into a false sense of security because the Republicans have taken control. If you really want to get down to it, what really has changed since the election? Absolutely nothing. The only thing that I see is that we the people have put our trust in the arm of flesh instead of the hand of God. This country is in the exact same condition spiritually today as it was the day before the election. The people have tried to fix a spiritual problem with a political solution and it will not work.
II Chronicles 2:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (KJV). It does not say if my people who are called by my name will go to the polls and vote in the Republican Party….
Hosea 14:1 says, “O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity” (KJV). This verse can be applied to our own situation. God is calling his people to return to Him. He is not telling us put our hope in politicians.
The Lord responds to true repentance and not election results. True repentance is not just setting a day aside to pray a prayer and then continuing in our wicked ways. True repentance is a lifestyle; it is turning away from wickedness and not just paying lip service. Please don’t get lulled into a spiritual slumber by a false hope that the arm of man can save you. Instead of shouts of victory over the election results, there should be cries of “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me”, Psalms 51:10 (KJV).
