There’s a lot of stuff floating around out here concerning the outcome of this next election and many believers are confused. Emotions are high because of the times in which we live and many feel like this is our last chance at saving America. It seems as if everywhere you look somebody has a word. These are not mere predictions or conjectures, but many are prophesying “thus said the Lord.” In this age of social media, You Tube, etc. anyone can set up shop and generate a following without accountability.
Part of the blame for this confusion rests with the individual believer. Many believers are running after this prophecy and that prophet but fail to look at what God says about the situation. If prophet so and so is coming to town these meetings are packed out with, people who want to get a word. Sadly, many of these same people lack a prayer life and neglect the Word. You can have a word anytime you want just by opening the book that God gave us. Prophecy does have its place and I am a strong believer in prophecy, but we have to use discernment. Anytime a prophecy is given, we are to pray about it as well as checking to see if it aligns with the Word of God. It doesn’t matter how many dreams, visions, visitations and words are given, the final authority is the Word of God. When we seek an experience rather than the truth, it will throw us off balance every time.
Another portion of blame rests with those that have a platform and a following. It may be You Tube, Blog Talk Radio, Website, Blog or some other form of media. I am especially pointing out those who have guests on their programs or allow others to contribute content on their sites. Some of these sites have millions of followers that could be lead astray. I kid you not, I have listened to a certain program one day and the guest says that God told them that Donald Trump will win the presidency, expose the corruption and bring America back. The next day I tune in to the same program and another prophet says God told him or her that the judgment is set and there is no turning back. Then, there are others who state that God told them that the elections would be cancelled, and Obama will stay in office. Many times one prophet may only have a piece of the puzzle, while God reveals another piece to someone else. So it is possible that there will be an election, and something could happen to prevent the winner from taking office and Obama doesn’t leave. The dangerous thing is when someone receives a word, dream or vision and begins to fill in the gaps according to their own understanding. Having a platform brings with it much responsibility.
You also have to understand that not every dream or vision is from God. Unfortunately, with the ease of access to an audience via the internet, those that have a dream or vision many times are quick to post these, rather than seeking the Lord first. Never in my life have I seen so many self-appointed prophets and watchmen as I do today. No wonder the body is Christ is so confused. Jesus warns us in Matthew 24:24, “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect,” (KJV).
The bottom line is for believers to not be swayed by every wind of doctrine, but to be rooted and grounded in the Word of God. I believe that part of the end times deception will be for many false prophets to bring confusion to the body of Christ so that that the true prophets of God will be ignored. Instead of taking man’s words at face value, we should be taking it to the Lord in prayer.
Scriptures to reference:
I Corinthians 14:33 tells us,” For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints,” (KJV).
“ When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him,” Deuteronomy 18:22 (KJV).
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world,” I John 4:1 (KJV).
“ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves,” Matthew 7:15 (KJV).
“1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the Lord;
3 Thus saith the Lord God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!
4 O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts.
5 Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord.
6 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The Lord saith: and the Lord hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.
7 Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The Lord saith it; albeit I have not spoken?
8 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God.
9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.” Ezekiel 13:1-9 (KJV).
