Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you are aware of the news that Ebola has arrived here in America. Starting in late September with Thomas Eric Duncan (a Liberian) who was in Dallas visiting family when he started showing symptoms of the disease. He sought help at a local Dallas hospital, was sent back home and ended up back there via ambulance a few days later. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the disease last week. Now we have a nurse, who cared for him that has tested positive for the disease and is currently being treated. There is also speculation that the virus is airborne. Personally I don’t think that it is airborne yet (this is probably planned in the near future). If it was, with Duncan being out in public for several days with symptoms, half of Dallas should be infected by now.
This past week, have been inundated with reports of people being taken off airplanes and whisked off to isolation centers to be monitored meanwhile creating panic among those that were in close proximity to the person. There was the scare of the law enforcement officer in Dallas (he had been to Duncan’s place of residence) who was showing symptoms but thankfully later tested negative. I’ve even seen that there are 3 other officers who are having symptoms. It’s not just in the mainstream media either. Go to almost any alternative news site and front and center is Ebola.
As we enter flu season, the fear and panic will reach new levels since the early symptoms of Ebola mimic the flu. I can imagine that emergency rooms, doctors’ offices and urgent care centers are going to be overrun with people who think they have Ebola.
Instead of feeding into the panic frenzy we need to step back and think about this using our critical thinking skills. First of all, for some reason the news media has selectively forgotten that there are other things going on in our world to be concerned about. For example, while we all sit here and panic about Ebola, did you know that China has overtaken the U.S. as the world’s largest economy?
One must think about just what are the powers that be trying to accomplish and who benefits from all of this? I’m not saying that there is not going to be a major outbreak of Ebola in this country but we need to think about how this will be accomplished. First of all I have a few questions about all of this. I’m not saying that I have the answers but just some things to think about:
Is the public being psychologically conditioned to readily take the vaccine?
Will the vaccine be the vehicle in which the disease is introduced into the population?
Why are military troops really being sent to West Africa? Is it to infect them and bring them back to the U.S. to be carriers of the disease?
Could Ebola be used as an excuse for the economic collapse here in the U.S.?
Will Ebola be used as an excuse to institute martial law and suspend the constitution nationwide?
Is this Ebola scare being used as a distraction for something more sinister that is unfolding?
Whatever the agenda or reasons for all of this we (as followers of Jesus) have to remember that we are not to react in fear and anxiety. “For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power and love and of a sound mind” II Timothy 1:7 (KJV).
