As I sat with my family last week during Christmas I began to look back at this past year and all the events that have taken place. In doing so, I am amazed at how much our world has changed in one short year. Jesus spoke of these times in Matthew 24: “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (verses 6-8, KJV).
In examining Matthew 24, we can see that much of what Jesus warned about is taking place right now. We are experiencing wars and rumors of war (all the hype and build up to world war 3), nation rising against nation (that’s ethnos against ethnos: you see this in the rise in racial tensions and hatred in America and throughout the world), famines, pestilences, and earthquakes (Ebola and other deadly disease outbreaks, droughts, food prices going through the roof, uptick in earthquakes, and dormant volcanos waking up). As if this isn’t bad enough, Jesus said that this was just the beginning of sorrows.
I know that there are many out there that would say that people have been talking about it being the end times for centuries and nothing has happened yet. The bible warns us about these people in II Peter 3:3-4 (KJV), “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” He also said in Matthew 16:3 (KJV), “….O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” It’s understandable for unbelievers to be mocker and scoffers. The thing that concerns me is that many of these scoffers are professing Christians and some of them pastors and church leaders. I’ve found that the fastest way to turn off most Christians and become an outcast in their local churches these days is to start talking about the end times and prophecy. Jesus was not talking to sinners; He was addressing those who profess to believe and He calls them hypocrites.
Let’s look at 2014 and some of the notable events that took place:
I believe that as we enter 2015 these things will be more pronounced and there is going to be an acceleration of events. The false prophets will tell you don’t worry because things are going to get better and America’s greatest days are ahead. Even though the lame stream media has been silent on Ebola I don’t think that we’ve seen the last of it. I’m sure that 2014 just gave us a taste of things to come. If you look at the above passage of scripture you will see that those of us who know the Lord Jesus are going to be hated and afflicted for his names sake. Many of us are going to be betrayed by those closest to us. Just remember that Jesus was betrayed by one that was close to Him. The love of many shall wax cold- we are going to see a war on Christians by so called Christians in the days to come. So don’t lose heart when trouble comes. Be thankful that you have been counted worthy to suffer for Him. I think that in the months and years to come, that many of us who have been self-sufficient are going to be put in the position where we will have to truly live by faith and trust God for all provisions. We have to make up our minds now that we are going to finish the race, no matter how difficult, painful or costly. Only those who endure to the end shall be saved.
With all this being said, the news of things to come is not all bad. For those that know Him, we are told in Daniel 11:32, “…the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits” (KJV). As the world grows darker, our lights will shine brighter. Never seen or heard of miracles, healings, provisions and deliverances will be the order of the day. So saints of God, buckle up because it’s going to be an exciting ride.
