The events that have been taking place in this country lately literally sicken me. We are a nation of people that are divided and controlled by a demonic hatred along racial, economic, political and social lines. An economic collapse will not cause our demise; sin and hatred will.
The events that transpired in Ferguson MO having been very telling in many ways. This has been such a divisive issue in our nation especially along racial lines. The thing that is most discouraging to me has been the conduct and language of many who call themselves Christians. There has been outright ugliness on both sides of the fence. In a time like this, the world does not need us to act like them, they need us to be a light and an example to follow. It’s a tragic situation all around but, hurling insults and violent acts will not solve the problem. Whether the grand jury decision was right or wrong, it is in God’s hands now and there will be another court in which all involved will have to give an account. Make no mistake, that in His court the right judgment will be handed down.
It’s true that there are many people out there who hate others (both black and white) just because of the color of their skin. They refuse to judge a person on their individual merits but would rather paint a whole group of people with a broad brush stroke. The fact of the matter is that there are righteous and there are unrighteous people in every race so for those of you who hate based on skin color or ethnicity, you just need to get over it.
We as followers of Jesus are still human, so naturally we will have strong feelings about this no matter which side we are on. The key is to not get caught up in it and allow satan to have a foothold in our lives. He knows us all too well and knows exactly the buttons to push to get us to fall. We should live our lives as we are commanded to in I john 4:7-8 which says, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (KJV).
For those who call themselves Christians and are caught up in this demonic hatred I just have one question for you. Is all of this really worth losing your salvation over? Is being right, getting justice or being considered superior to others worth going to hell over because that’s exactly where you are headed with this attitude. “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?” Matthew 7:16 (KJV). Take this as an opportunity to examine yourself and how you feel towards others that don’t look like you. Do you take the above passage and only apply it to members of your own race or ethnicity? Do you only apply it to people if that act like you think they should act? Do you only apply it to those who treat you with respect? Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:44 (KJV), “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
If you are a black person reading this, you have to come to the realization that not every white person is racist or out to get you or keeping you down. I’m sure that many of you have experienced legitimate racism at some point in your lives (I have personally) but, you cannot look at a whole race of people through the lens of your past experiences with a few people. Slavery ended a long time ago, so we have to get rid of that slave mentality. By the same token, if you are white, you cannot judge an entire race of people based on stereotypes and things that may have been done to you or someone you know by a black person. Every black male is not a criminal in a gang that is waiting to rob or harm you. Every black female is not a single unwed mother with six kids by six different men. And no, we all don’t own Obama phones and have EBT cards. I know people of all races who are respectable people, who work hard for what they have and are law abiding citizens. As followers of Jesus, we have to get past this racial nonsense. When we think like this, we are allowing the enemy of our souls to gain ground in our lives. I’m not saying that there haven’t been any injustice that has happened at times, but when it does happen take it to Jesus. “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head” Romans 12:19-20 (KJV).
If you are a Christian (black or white) and you let something like this throw you off balance, how will you react when severe persecution reaches your doorstep? How are you going to react when all manner of vile things are said and done against you and your loved ones, because you follow Jesus? You should consider Fergusson a spiritual litmus test for things that are ahead. Also as followers’ of Jesus, we have to use spiritual discernment in these situations. I don’t think that it is a coincidence that a week after Ferguson, there is a no indictment in the New York case of Eric Garner. I’m not talking about this from a racial point of view, but looking at the bigger picture. The powers that be hate America and its people of all races and want unrest and civil war in our streets. They don’t care how it comes about, as long as it happens. We need to get our minds off of race and look at what is really happening.
This situation in Ferguson is just the beginning of things to come. I think that there will be many more events that occur in the future with the intention of dividing us along racial, social economic and political lines. Let’s not fall prey to these tactics from the enemy. If you feel yourself beginning to be pulled in by all of the hatred and discord, then turn off the television, internet and social media and turn to the One who is faithful and true for deliverance.
